Youth Empowerment Program

Young people must have the opportunity to lead change within their own communities

Current Situation

  • Nepal is called Country of the Young with 40.68% youth population.
  • 5 out of 10 youths in Nepal are in Kathmandu district.
  • 1 in 4 youth has been unemployed for over a year.
  • Today’s 1.45 billion young people (aged 18 to 29), the largest youth generation ever, are actively shaping the world. They are digitally connected, passionate about bringing change, and increasingly driving social, political, and economic progress in their local communities and beyond.
  • Description

  • According to Nepal Migration Survey carried out by World Bank in 2009 a total of 2.1 million Nepalese are working abroad; most of this population consists of youth aged between 20 to 44 years.
  •
  • Nepal has little to offer its youth and every day, more than a thousand migrate with the hope of better pay overseas. Lack of skills alongside shortage of employment has left thousands of youth in distress and poverty. Having a large section of youth population, Nepal is unable to absorb their skills and energy into labour market.
  • The economic growth of a country and increment of living standards is directly related youth empowerment. Youth empowerment is achieved by encouraging youth rights and youth activism. Hence, the potential of youth in Nepal is remains untapped. The is an immense need to empower youths of today for a better tomorrow.
  • Goal

  • To empower youth socially and economically through education, life skills and entrepreneurship development. Youth Empowerment Program focuses its projects under three very important SDGs:
  • Goal 1: No Poverty
  • Goal 4: Quality Education
  •
  • Via this program, DBSHAREN intends to provide youth with skill-based training. The program includes giving skill-development training, vocational and entrepreneurship training, to equip youths with essential knowledge and encouragement to start their own business in their homeland. It is engagements like these that encourage youths to be active in their community and spring in them the motivation and dedication to do something productive. Nepalese communities are in dire need of youths. With most of them jumping for opportunities abroad and some still looking for jobs here in the country and a lot of the youths lost in drug-infused haze, Nepalese youths need to be involved in productive activities, useful skills, trainings, inspiration and motivation. When the youth of a country is strong, confident and motivated, they help grow the country is a holistic manner. Youth when guided to the right direction, become the key agent in changing their community and country for the better. Nepal’s total population is comprised by 38.8% youth. If they can be correctly mobilized the development of communities and nation is guaranteed. Volunteers can be the driving force behind the mobilization of Nepalese youth. It is an empowering task and one that is very rewarding.
